An XML Framework Proposal for Knowledge Discovery in Databases

چکیده
In recent years, the XML language has been receiving much interest among IT community. It has many nice properties that make it a great candidate for representation of different kinds of data. In this paper we will propose an XML framework for the domain of knowledge discovery in databases. This is not a specification document; this article tries to be a compendium of ideas and remarks concerning the broad area of knowledge discovery in databases (KDD). It tries to identify some common high-level problems of this area from a higher perspective and then to outline a possible solution, showing an example with the definition of data interfaces for respective KDD steps using XML.

Describing the Data Mining Process with DMSL
The state of the art in the domain of knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) and data mining (DM) has reached the point where the existence of various languages is becoming highly desirable. This paper presents an XML-based language called DMSL (Data Mining Specification Language). Its purpose is to provide the framework for platform-independent definition of the whole data mining process, and ...
متن کاملAn XML-Based Database for Knowledge Discovery: Definition and Implementation
Inductive databases have been proposed as general purpose databases to support the KDD process. Unfortunately, the heterogeneity of the discovered patterns and of the different conceptual tools used to extract them from source data make the integration in a unique framework difficult. In this chapter, we explore the feasibility of using XML as the unifying framework for inductive databases, and...
متن کاملToward XML-Based Knowledge Discovery Systems
Inductive databases are intended to be general purpose databases in which both source data and mined patterns can be represented, retrieved and manipulated; however, the heterogeneity of models for mined patterns makes difficult to realize them. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of using XML as the unifying framework for inductive databases, introducing a suitable data model called XDM ...
متن کاملAn XML-Based Database for Knowledge Discovery
Pattern Management Systems and Inductive Databases, are proposed as a new generation of general purpose databases with the aim to manage data mining patterns and work as knowledge bases in support to the deployment of the KDD process. One of the main problems to be solved is the integration between data and patterns and pattern maintenance when data update. Unfortunately, the heterogeneity of t...
متن کاملSemantic Query Optimization for XML Databases based on Equivalent Transformation Framework
Query optimization, which aims to reduce query evaluation time, is crucial to the success of XML database systems because of the complex structure of XML data and XML queries. Existing optimization techniques neither take the advantage of the rich semantic knowledge available in XML databases nor utilize it in a systematic and efficient manner, resulting in significant reduction of optimization...
